1. First we need to create our rock. Create sphere with radius about 15cm.

Image

2. Click 6 on your keyboard and Particle View will pop up. Right click on empty space and go to New > Particle System > Empty Flow and again New > Birth Event > Birth and connect these two.

Image

3. Click on Birth Operator and set Emit Stop to 0 and Amount to 100.

Image

4. Right click on Display and go to Append > Operator > Position Object.

Image

5. Drag Spawn Test under the Position Object and set these settings.

Image

6. We are going to apply some forces, in this case wind, so we must create Force Operator Event. To do that, follow the instruction from next picture.

Image

7. Create Wind like in this print screen and set Strength to 0.5, Turbulence to 0.75, Frequency to 2 and Scale to 1.

Image

8. Click on Force operator in Particle View and in properties rollout pick Add or By List to select wind in the scene.

Image

9. Here is a result you should get.

Image

10. Because comets don’t have that long tale we must append delete operator and set Remove type to By Particle Age and set Life Span to 10 and Variation to 10.

Image

11. Append Shape and set Shape to Sphere and Size to 2.

Image

12. Append Scale Operator and follow this settings.

Image

13. To create material for comet put Particle Age map in diffuse slot and try to pick colors like this.

Image

14. Here are the settings for rest of the material.

Image

15. Go again to Particle View and append Material Dynamic Operator under the Render and drag your comet material in to it.

Image

16. For motion blur just right click on PF Source and chose properties. Enable MBlur, set it to Image type and set value to 0.65.

Image

17. For background go to material editor and import some sky map in empty slot. Click 8 on your keyboard to open Environment and Effects properties and drag sky map to Environment map slot.

Image

18. To display sky map in you viewport click Alt+B on your keyboard and check Use Environment Background and Display Background.
